It wasn’t until I was 33 years old (and I’d been living in San Francisco for 8 years) that I realized, “Hey. I’m a freaky artist type!” I’d always known I was interested in artistic endeavors, and so I set off to find out what particular art suited me best.

I studied guitar with a near virtuoso Berklee School of Music grad, and wrote a few songs. I studied drawing with world-renowned monumental sculptor Aris Demetrios. I studied acting at ACT, a nationally acclaimed school, and performance at the Marsh, a local guerrilla theater, where I wrote and performed my own shows. I wrote three novels and a handful of short stories.

For each of these arts, I studied and created with singular focus and vigor. Always, however, my passion would wan, and I would find myself asking the question, again and again, “What am I meant to be doing?”

Then, amusingly enough, I found out when I filmed a friend’s wedding, and spent the next 3 weeks (on the train to work at my then 9-5 job, at home for hours, etc.) editing it. Man, did I love shooting! And editing! And, in fact, the whole process of filming.

I’ve been making movies since I was 14. I’ve always loved it, and lo and behold, filmmaking involves all of the other arts I love: visual composition, writing, music, sound – everything! It also has one other major component absolutely built-in that the other arts don’t necessarily have – collaboration.

Getting my work out there has been tough for me. I can be pretty shy about my creations. And – one of the most important things to me in life is truly connecting with people. And film is all about that.

So here we are! Jo (my amazing wife and CEO of foolish tree films) and I hope that you really love our site, our work, and visiting here. Please check back often, and subscribe for updates. If you have any ideas or thoughts you’d like to share, please feel free to contact us.

Best,

Ian
